DOP’s Perspective:
For the ResMed AirSense 11 India ad, we were working within a relatively tight budget, but the visual ambition remained very high. I needed a lens kit that could deliver a cinematic, premium look without slowing us down on set. That’s why I chose the Cooke SP3 series with the Sony FX9.
The FX9 provided reliability and workflow efficiency, while the SP3s lifted the images to a level I couldn’t have achieved with standard glass. What impressed me most was how they treated digital sharpness: instead of exaggerating the sensor’s edge, they brought in texture. Skin, fabrics, and even architectural elements carried fine detail, but with an organic smoothness that avoided the sterile, clinical quality I often notice in modern optics. That’s what made the ad feel refined yet human. My preferred focal lengths on this project were the 50mm and 75mm. On set, the lenses were lightweight and easy to handle, which was vital given the pace and constraints of production.
The FX9 gave me consistency and speed, while the SP3s elevated the visuals with something far beyond generic glass… a natural roundness, gentle skin rendition, and subtle dimensionality that made the film appear far larger in scale. In practice, the SP3 lenses transformed a practical camera package into something that truly felt like a cinema setup.
