For shooting Anbikru En Ondrai Azhuthavum, a short film under 5 minutes with two contrasting landscapes connected over a phone call, I chose a minimal camera setup with a very small crew, making sure not to compromise on image quality. I went with the Sony FX3 paired with Cooke SP3 lenses.
The director was particular that almost the entire film should be shot with static frames, so I confidently chose the SP3 and pulled focus myself. The compactness of the lenses along with the lightweight camera body gave me the freedom to shoot quickly we managed to cover one part in a real office location within a very tight time window, and another part on a mountain terrain.
We even captured an exterior city shot at the end of the film from inside a car, outside a major location, without permission. A feat that would have been impossible with a larger setup. The finished film carried a very natural, soft, and warm look across both the city and the village portions. The crew loved the colours and sharpness so much that they personally asked me about the lenses. Special thanks to Srishti Digilife for providing the Cooke SP3.
