The 83rd annual Golden Globes is fast approaching, and nominees have just been announced. The prestigious ceremony returns to honour excellence in film and television from around the world.
This year’s shortlist includes some of the most revered and impactful international films and television shows released this year. For the ceremony taking place January 11, we are proud that Cooke lenses have been part of the creative process for many films on a variety of formats by international cinematographers.
First up, we have Norwegian feature film Sentimental Value with two nominations: Best motion picture – Drama and Best motion picture (Non-English language). As well as harnessing the beauty of 35mm and 16mm Kodak film, Director of Photography Kasper Tuxen used Cooke 5/i lenses for the feature, commenting, “For the contemporary part of the film, I went with the Cooke 5/i’s once again, because of the appealing softness they give to the image, especially on close-ups.” The film won the Grand Prix at Cannes 2025 and has since received wide acclaim for its raw and intimate portrayal of family relationships.

Park Chan-Wook’s exciting upcoming feature No Other Choice is up for two Golden Globe awards: Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Motion Picture (Non-English Language). The south Korean satirical thriller is based on Donald Westlake’s novel The Ax (1997), which follows an unemployed man’s violent strategy to secure a new job: eliminate all competition.
Director of Photography Kim Woo-hyung is the creative eye behind the film and chose to shoot with Cooke Anamorphic/i FF SF lenses. Kim Woo-hyung has been nominated multiple times in his career for Best Cinematography and this film won International People’s Choice Award at TIFF 2025. No other Choice marks the fourth project that the director and cinematographer have collaborated on.

Philip Barantini’s Adolescence took the world by storm with its release in March; a gripping mini-series that follows a young boy who has been accused of murdering a female classmate. The series boasts a unique cinematography technique, with each episode filmed in one continuous, unflinching shot.
Director of Photography Matthew Lewis chose a Cooke SP3 32mm to pair alongside the DJI Ronin 4D for the series. When speaking with Cooke, Lewis commented “The SP3’s offered a lens that was gentle and neutral…something that felt like it sat well in the look of the show… A project like this is all about leaning into the realism of a one shot – the clarity of these lenses ticked that box perfectly.” Adolescence is up for multiple awards including Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television.

Another television series up for nomination is Only Murders in the Building. The comedy series follows three eclectic neighbours who find purpose in solving murders through their true crime podcast. Cinematographer Kyle Willschleger shot season 5 using Cooke Varotal/i FF and S7/i FF lenses. The show is nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
