This was my first opportunity to use the Sp3’s. When prepping for this production, we knew there would be two distinct approaches taken while shooting. One was a more verté style approach. George being a wildlife photographer—we needed to react quickly to the scenes unfolding around us in the Florida wild. Conversely, since much of the film takes place in the past, we needed to create scenes that helped support the retelling of George’s story. In this second approach, we were able to shoot less reactively and focus more on crafting images that could help blend the past with the present.
From wading through swamps in Florida to sound stages in NYC, the SP3’s absolutely delivered. They are incredibly compact and still provide the ‘Cooke look’ we were after. Having shot many different Cooke lenses before, I was very impressed with how visually familiar these lenses felt!
