A Blink and a Whisper is a surreal love story between an eye and a mouth, told through the intimate and distorted perspective of a macro lens.
I think it was very important for us to find the perfect lens for this film. I’ve always loved Cooke lenses and the way they look, so I naturally gravitated towards them. When it came to A Blink and a Whisper, there was no doubt that we would use Cooke.
I was fascinated by the beautiful textures our Cooke macro lens gave us, especially the way the focus breathed. We were trying to move away from a realistic image towards a more avant-garde, surreal world, and exploring how we could heighten the emotional tension through the lens.
Even the slightest adjustment to the focus felt so different. That was why we specifically used the 90mm lens, where this quality came through most strongly.
