BSC - Cooke seminar: The New Collaborations that Empower the Cinematographer's Vision

At BSC Expo 2025, Cooke Digital hosted a seminar: The new collaborations that empower the cinematographer’s vision.

The Cooke Digital team were joined by an array of experienced guests from a range of skill sets covering pre-vis, cinematography, and postproduction workflows for a discussion around the importance of collaboration between these different departments.

With ever growing technological advancements, it is now possible to streamline much of the workflow between these departments, making the transition of key decisions and information seamless. This helps ensure that the cinematographer’s artistic vision remains fully understood and intact throughout the complex production process.

The panellists at the BSC seminar were:

Jordan Thistlewood, Managing Director of Cooke Digital

Jordan joined Cooke in 2024 to build the new Cooke Digital division that focuses on the intersection of cinematography and multiple digital mediums. He brings over 25 years’ experience in VFX, animation, virtual production, and software development for artists and enterprise creative businesses.

Tamás Papp – Virtual Cinematography Technician

Tamás is a Cinematograher, who has cross trained in Unreal Engine and has worked as Greig Frasers’ virtual cinematography technician. An expert in Previs and cinematography visualisation, the work he does represents the future of cinematography planning.

Ashley Barron ACS – Cinematographer

Ashley Barron ACS is a Director of Photography, known for her work on Starz/Lionsgate’s Dangerous Liaisons. Ashley’s extensive experience on VFX-intensive productions provides her with unique insights into the collaborative process between cinematographers and digital artists’ insights

Mark Purvis – Mission Digital

Mark Purvis has been in the industry close to two decades and through his company Mission Digital he is at the forefront of supporting cinematographers, and the UK film industry by ensuring the creativity of the onset production process.

David Procter BSC – Cinematographer

David is a Director of Photography based between London & Los Angeles. David’s debut feature ‘Bypass’ received its world premiere in competition at the Venice Film Festival before a nomination for Cinematographer’s Debut at Camerimage & the Grand Prize at Goldeneye.

Victor Perez – Visual Effects Supervisor

Victor Perez is a renowned figure in the global visual effects industry. He has worked on a number of Hollywood films, including Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’, plus many more. Eventually, he became a Film Director, and his career naturally led him to his current role as a Visual Effects Supervisor.
