DOP’s Perspective:

Shooting with Cooke lenses has long been more than a technical choice for me — it has become a philosophy.

When I first approached this music video, I envisioned a softness, an organic and almost dreamlike quality to the visuals. I wanted the set around the dancers to feel tangible, yet never overly sharp or clinical.

The warmth and character of the Cooke look have always resonated with me, and from the outset, I knew that shooting on Cooke Anamorphic lenses was the right choice. My goal was a look that felt both immersive and delicate, drawing the audience into the song and dance without ever appearing too polished or distant.

The narrative follows a couple in love, whose bond unfolds amid a ritualistic Indian dance in a grand palace-like set, alongside 150 other dancers. Thanks to the anamorphic format, I was able to get intimately close to our lead actors while still capturing the scale, grandeur, and energy of the surrounding world… creating a balance between intimacy and spectacle.

In situations where I might traditionally rely on heavy diffusion for lighting, the Cooke anamorphics naturally provide a soft, even diffusion, giving the entire frame a harmonious consistency. At the same time, they maintain clarity, precise outlines, and beautifully pronounced contrast spreading softness without losing details
