DOP’s Perspective:
I really fell in love with Cooke while filming a TVC last year with the S8i’s.
From the very beginning of this project, we were keen on shooting handheld throughout the campaign and wanted a lens that had a nostalgic feel to it, sharp but not too sharp like many modern lenses.
After looking at a few options, I decided to shoot on the Cooke Panchro FF kit and Alexa Mini LF. When I was testing the Panchro’s, I was really impressed with how they have an organic falloff and natural skin tones. Plus, they were super light!
All three films in this campaign were shot on 25mm and 32mm film. Because of the close focus capabilities of the 25 & 32 mm, I was able to get much closer to the characters, which led to some interesting close-up shots.
The Panchro kit really strikes a good balance between vintage aesthetics and modern functionality. With the help of the Panchro’s, I was able to achieve the final look of my films in camera itself. Thanks to my Colourist Prateek, who had made a custom film LUT for us to shoot with, which really helped us lock in the final desired look on set.
