For the Surf Excel campaign, I chose the Sony FX3 paired with Cooke SP3 lenses because the project had a limited budget, but I didn’t want to compromise on the cinematic quality of the visuals.

The Cooke SP3 lenses are known for their beautiful warmth, character, and organic rendering, which helped achieve a premium, filmic look without the need for a much larger camera package.

The Sony FX3 offered an excellent balance of image quality, flexibility, and efficiency, making it the perfect choice within the budget constraints. Combined with the Cooke SP3 lenses, it delivered the depth, texture, and emotional feel that the story required.

The results exceeded expectations, and both the client and director were extremely happy with the final look of the film. As a Director of Photography, there is no greater satisfaction than finding the right creative and technical balance to bring a vision to life while staying within budget.
