DOP Maciej Puczyński on his lens choice:
“I choose Cooke, both spherical and anamorphic, for their incredible transmission of space. The sense of 3-dimensionality draws us inside. Their sharpness of the foreground and softness of bokeh, combined with subtle color rendition was very important, when we decided with Tomek – the director, for art direction to prepare monochrome set.

I didn’t want to loose any of the sepias, browns and greens shades, I wanted them to be subtle and rich. I also wanted to preserve the original, old structures of the objects in frame. Hence once I had the line for Cooke lens, when making them as choice for my latest documentaries: “Reality deserves better look”.

This project was very close to documentary filmmaking and we decided on anamorphics to give it also different approach, without flares and other „obligatory” artifacts though. I want to compose within frame and make people feel it is all real and at the same time – slightly from another world. I try to capture the tension between the object and its actual meaning. This is why we shot the real flat of an elderly person with cinematic lenses.”
