The Paralympic campaign from Publicis responds to common questions about the cause of athletes’ impairment with unexpected answers. The commercials, which launched during the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, redirect the question “What happened?”— usually a query about what caused the athlete’s disability — with narratives about the athletes’ achievements. The pieces highlight athletes Alice Tai (para swimmer, Great Britain) and Trey Jenifer (wheelchair basketball, USA), who detail their accomplishments to curious passersby.
Director Cole Webley’s works weaves together intimate narratives that dive into the depths of the human experience. So did this campaign, and we sought nostalgic, rehoused vintage glass which was both reliable, lightweight, understated, and available in Budapest, Hungary.
The Cooke Speed Panchros are low in contrast yet high in detail and were a beautifully suitable pairing with the Alexa Mini. Our camera and lens package needed to be small and lightweight to have the ability to be rigged onto the wheelchair Trey uses in a game, as well as rigged into a small underwater housing to track Alice under the water.
