DOP  Mattias Nyberg on his camera and lens choices
“I know the s4i’s almost like the back of my hand, having used them on many different productions in the past, which is why they were my choice for Bancroft. I know the performance I’m going to get; beautiful skin tones, lovely colour separation and contrast. This provided a solid base for me to use a lot of filtration to layer the look of the show, to give it texture. Most of the time we had a Smoque1 + 3mm Clear Streak & 1/8 BPM in front of the glass. That’s a lot of variables to consider on a fast paced tv-drama set.

The consistent high performance of the s4/i’s gave me the confidence to follow through on my slightly unorthodox approach. Having those lenses, that I knew really well and trusted 100%, allowed me to take more risks with my photography. As a shooting stop, I normally like to be around T2 ½ (D&N) and using the Venice that was always easily achievable. Sometimes we’d go wide open (T2) on some shots, and the lenses always performed the way I wanted them to. The combination of the Venice sensor and the Cooke lenses is definitely one I’ll be using again.”
