From the inception of the project, we had very little time to execute this. And considering the volume of shots that needed to be covered, I was looking for a system that was both light and flexible. That’s when the director and I decided to go with the DJI Ronin 4D. Naturally, my first obvious choice of lenses was the Cooke SP3.
I’ve used the SP3s on multiple projects before, and I love how compact they are while still delivering that unmistakable Cooke look. They’re sharp yet full of character, even wide open, and I love the flares they produce.
One limitation of the Ronin 4D is the payload it can carry, and that’s where the SP3s really shine. At around 400–500g, they keep the package light as Breeze and effortless to work with. We also had shots where we had to use the 4D as flex system, and the short barrel of the lenses was a real advantage, allowing us to comfortably shoot in tight.
