DOP’s Perspective:
When it comes to large format cinematography, the Cooke S7/i lenses deliver some of the most beautiful images possible. What stands out immediately is the way they render skin tones rich, smooth, and creamy, with that unmistakable “Cooke Look” that feels both natural and cinematic at the same time.
I had the opportunity to use these lenses on the second season of this show, and the difference in my images was undeniable. In the first season, I had worked with Zeiss Supreme Primes (S1), which gave me a very clean and precise look.
But when I switched to the S7/i for the second season, I noticed a remarkable shift in character. The images carried more depth and warmth, and the emotional texture felt far more engaging.
The S7/i didn’t just enhance the aesthetic they elevated the storytelling. Faces appeared more alive, the backgrounds carried a pleasing fall-off, and the overall image had a subtle, painterly quality that I had been striving for.
It’s this combination of technical excellence and emotional resonance that makes the Cooke S7/i a go-to lens choice for large format productions.
