Working with Cooke lenses is not a simple choice, it is a philosophy. When we had the opportunity to test the new lineup of Sony Digital Cinema Large Format Cameras, it felt almost necessary to work with Cooke lenses. And as always with Cooke the result has been even more impressive than the expectations. Combining cameras as diverse as the Venice 2 and the FX3 was enough of a task. Doing so using different types of anamorphic as well as one of the latest Varotal spherical zoom, was a true challenge. But the consistency of the Cooke Look and quality made this effort almost seamless. Transitioning from the FF anamorphic long lenses to the S35 anamorphic 32mm allowed us to take the most advantage of the Venice and FX6 large sensor both in the close shots and in the extreme wides, helping us to bring to life our interior NY subway car. The spherical Varotal zoom used on the FX6 captured shots that integrated perfectly with the other lenses and didn’t require any special treatment during color correction.
